Cat Cafes, basically stores filled with cats to play with, are all the rage in East Asia. Tokyo alone has around 100 such businesses, where customers can come in and relax with a warm beverage or snack, cuddle with some cute cats and generally have a lovely time. Enthusiasm  for these establishments has for the most part been restricted to Asia, but that’s set to change.

Lauren Pears, a senior project manager at Sony PlayStation, aims to open Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in East London and is turning to crowdfunding site indiegogo for support. She wants to create an indulgent space where you can really relax and treat yourself in the heart of London’s bustling business district. For £5 you’ll gain entry to lots of comfy chairs and couches, and enjoy free books, WiFi, boardgames and of course cats.

But it’s not just about creating a convenient space for city dwellers who can’t have their own pets. Pears’ cafe will be a home for abandoned, homeless cats, and she’s working with the Mayhew Animal Home to ensure that the cats are well taken care of. Check out her video below.
