Dutch fashiontech designer Anouk Wipprecht and Austrian software developer and hacker Daniel Schatzmayr collaborated to create this prototype of a robotic spider dress. The mechanical dress is equipped with sensors, indicators, and controllers, and aims “to give more power and ‘psychological thrills’ to the sugar sweet character that performative wearables often have.”
The spider legs sit on the wearer’s shoulders and respond to nearby movement, reacting and attacking upon approach. As DVICE notes, the dress was recently demonstrated at Cafe Neu Romance, during the opening of the international robot performance festival in Prague.
