The Solar Ship is a hybrid aircraft that is powered by the sun and assisted by helium. It can take off or land on an area of land the size of a soccer field, an advantage that would allow it to deliver medical supplies to remote regions that aren’t accessible by road vehicles or other airplanes that need a larger space.
An Indiegogo campaign has been created to fund the travel and operating costs for Solar Ship’s first mission to Africa, where it aims to make several trips picking up medical supplies from its partners and delivering them to villages in the surrounding area.
It plans to build, test, and train pilots for the African mission soon, and launch it after completing another project in northern Canada. 100% of the funds raised during the campaign will be used to cover the costs.
The perks include space on the ship for logos and messages, and individuals or organizations can sponsor the mission and the technology by purchasing “patches” on the ship, which will also be reproduced digitally on Solar Ship’s website. There are patches of different sizes, ranging from $125 up to $10,000. You can check out the Solar Ship story in the video below:
