Beercade automatically pours brewery’s most popular varieties as a prize.
Winning something is always better than paying for it. With this notion in mind, independent ad agency McKinney created a unique way for Raleigh brewer, Big Boss Brewing Company, to get people to taste their varieties of beer. Introducing Beercade: The Last Barfighter, a retro-style arcade game where players fight over a chance to get some brew dispensed into their cup straight from the arcade machine.
McKinney Associate Creative Director Owen Tingle said:
I grew up playing video games, and I remember stacking quarters at the old arcades waiting in line to show off my virtual fighting skills. And I think it’s a nostalgic experience a lot of people identify with. I’ve also grown to appreciate the craft and skill it takes to make good-tasting beer. So to combine these two passions into a unique experience other people can enjoy was just awesome.
Both the flash-based game and the arcade box itself were created in-house. In place of coin dispensers, are drip trays, cup-holders and sensor that accept cups in place of quarters. The game itself is a relatively simple one, with five characters, all themed around the Big Boss Brewing labels, who fight over three rounds using basic fighting moves, as well as ‘signature moves’ such as unicorn horn impaling. The best of three wins, and a sample of beer is automatically dispensed via the Beercade taps.
Dave Roger, Big Boss Brewing’s marketing and distribution manager believes the game is a unique way to highlight all the different offerings of the brewery:

While there is currently only one machine, Big Boss is planning on taking the idea to beer festivals and bars, and is considering a possible March Madness tie-in.
