As glass design can impact the taste of beer, German glassmaker Spiegelau partnered with Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head and Ken Grossman of Sierra Nevada to produce a specific glass for IPAs.
Calagione and Grossman are considered to be two of the leading IPA brewers in the United States. Their design features a thinner glass, which allows the liquid to stay cooler, a triple-ridged bottom that aerates it and traps the carbonation, and the tall, slender upper part concentrates the beer and pushes its aromas towards your nose.
The Spiegelau IPA glass is designed to showcase varying aromatic profiles for the American ‘hop forward’ IPA beer, preserve a frothy head and volatiles and maintain a comfortably wide opening for the drinker to “nose” the beer. This is the go-to vessel for IPA beers!
