Due to the overwhelmingly large amount of styles online retailer Zappos offers, 125,000+, it was recently forced to rethink the way it offers the over 1,000 brands various merchandise. As one of Zappos key company policies is providing stellar shopping experiences to its shoppers, they launched a whole knew platform, which looks similar to a Pinterest page.
Calling the new platform Glance, Zappos provides its consumer with edited collections of various popular products in a clean, simple, and easy to navigate layout. The site has three main navigation tabs: Collections, Trending and My Activity.
The main page lays out Zappos various collections, which feature popular on trend items including shoes, clothing and housewares. Site users can ‘heart’ products, which is similar to a Facebook ‘Like’ or Twitter ‘Favorite.’ When site members heart a product or a collection, other site members can see and view what other products that members has liked.
Zappo’s product and UX manager Carrie Whitehead explains the idea of hearting:
Hearting items is a core concept to develop community, and it really helps others to discover similar products and similar people.
Through this new shopping platform, Zappos hopes to create a sense of community in order to drive discovery amongst its shoppers.
