In a new video by Chanel, viewers can discover the inspiration behind it’s iconic jacket. Created by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the 1950s, the jacket is characterized by both masculine and feminine features.

She introduced the casual but elegant suit as a move away from the style of the time, offering free and active women a garment that could be worn during the day and night that was both comfortable and functional. After turning tweed into her signature material, Chanel focused on refining the design to make the jacket fit like a second skin.
