Photographer Cheyne Gallarde transformed himself into the backers of his Kickstarter project as a reward for their support. Those who pledged over $25 for the ‘Universe of One‘ portrait project (an ever-expanding catalog of characters all played by Gallarde) were featured in a special section in the book.

Universe of One was inspired by the work of Cindy Sherman. It is an attempt to connect humanity in an artistic and conceptual way, by examining how we are different, yet so similar in many ways.

Along with portraits of the artist posing as them, they received a JPG file of the final image and a PDF version of the full book.

There are photos of the artist posing as the backers themselves using only makeup, wardrobe and lighting tricks, making them part of his universe. The ‘Twinsies‘ side project shows Gallarde recreating his backers, regardless of sex, gender, or race. Click through to see a selection of the portraits:
