Silverline is a project that reimagines the ubiquitous smartphone as something that better meets the needs of seniors. It creates apps specifically designed for them and helps provide underserved elderly people with donated second-hand phones to improve their quality of life.
It is now raising funds on Indiegogo, where it offers a suite of five apps and the chance to help more underserved seniors. The apps include ‘Well Being’, which provides reminders for taking medicine, drinking water, and doing exercise. It also allows users to monitor their moods and watch videos with simple health tips to implement in their daily routines.
Another app, ‘Emergency’, offers simple icons for emergency assistance with just the tap of a finger. If a fall is detected or the phone is idle for a certain length of time, a message will be sent to make sure there is nothing wrong. If the message is not verified, the person’s caregiver will be notified. You can get an app pack for $29 or a super app pack for $39, which offers all future Silverline apps they develop as well.
Silverline’s ‘Care Pack’ ($79) also provides an underserved senior with everything they need to take full advantage of the new apps, including a refurbished iPhone 3GS, a year-long data and voice plan, all current and future apps, and one-on-one smartphone training.
