Iris van Herpen creates a couture piece that resembles flowing liquid.
Fashion designer Iris van Herpen collaborated with photographer Nick Knight to create a dress that looks like flowing water. Knight used high-speed cameras to capture black and clear water being thrown on the model. Van Herpen will then use the images as an inspiration to design a one-off couture piece.
Van Herpen explained that:
The water-dress symbolises for me the incomprehensible magic of the body. I often wonder if we will keep on wearing fabrics in future, or if dressing will become something non-material, something that is visible, but not tangible or touchable.
The dutch designer is fascinated by the concept of liquid clothing and unveiled her Crystallisation collection in 2010 at London Fashion Week. Van Herpen will talk more about the current project on SHOWstudio between 3 and 9 April. Click through the images below to see more images of the creative outfit.
