A student from the Craft & industrial Design Department at Musashino Art university in Tokyo, Japan, has created a simplistic and functional bike made entirely of wood. Yojiro Oshima made the wooden bike as part of his final project before graduation.
The elegant bicycle includes wheels, handlebars, frame, and saddle, all carved from wood. Oshima explains that the the “short cantilevered seat beam was designed to reduce large impacts,” while the “seat stay and chain stay remain as usual to assure the stiffness.”
Oshima isn’t the first to rethink a bicycle made entirely of wood. Earlier on PSFK, we’ve written about the Thonet bike that was inspired by retro bentwood chairs. Then there’s Bill Holloway and Mauro Hernandez who handcraft wooden bikes that resemble classic “hogs.”
