NYC Design School Converts To CoWorking Space In The Summer

Student studio space doubles up as an office during class breaks

MFA Products of Design is offering a Summer Desk Rental program in Chelsea, NYC from May 27th to August 23rd 2013. The location is a sun-drenched 7th floor, designed by andArchitects and features 24-hour access to a dedicated desk, community kitchen, Internet, meeting rooms, a lounge area, bike parking, a photobooth area and more.

This CoWorking trend has become an increasingly common theme with businesses looking to collaborate and benefit from using the same space for different purposes. Advantages include cutting overheads as they tend to share costs and also promotion of each other’s ventures. Similar schemes include shops converting to restaurants in the evenings and the idea can also be seen in a more literal sense where brands share the same advertising space on TV, for example the Old Spice x Bounty commercial broadcast in 2012.

The Summer Desk Rental project promotes the MFA program and its students to summertime visitors and community members and all proceeds go to supporting the course and its students. Expect to see many similar initiatives in the not-so-distant future.
