Design studio Tangent has developed a mysterious light display using black silicone oil, a small pump and LEDs in a ceramic bowl.
From designers Hideki Yoshimoto and Yoshinaka Ono of tangent design studio, who recently received the first international Lexus Design Award for their kinetic light installation INHAO, comes a mysterious light display.
KIHOU uses a sticky liquid-filled ceramic bowl covered with a thin layer of black silicone oil floating on top and a small pump and LEDs placed in the bottom. As air is pushed into the liquid, luminous bubbles appear from the black liquid surface. The designers write:
The rhythm of bubbles, unexpected noise, stickiness of the liquid and lightness of oil, and mysterious contrast between the golden light and black surface. These elements breathe life into this small cube and sublimate it into a product that people could feel affinity and sympathise with.
