Half-And-Half MINI Sculpture Is Part Car Part Paper
Designers at MINI created the installation to spark the imagination.
During Salone del Mobile 2013, the MINI Paceman Garage will host workshops and parties celebrating the intersection of design and automotive culture. The centerpiece is an installation called KAPOOOW! created by members of the MINI design team.
The fundamental notion underpinning the MINI KAPOOOW! spatial concept is that the MINI is in essence a very emotion-led product which breaks the norms and boasts a highly distinctive personality. With its sporting agility, the MINI Paceman is poised to leap into a new world in which colours and materials change and open the door to unimagined realms of experience.
KAPOOOW! is viewed in two ‘phases.’ The first shows the back sheet metal and components from a real Paceman undergoing a metamorphosis. Thread has been painstakingly hand woven around the body panels to represent energy.
Breaking through a dividing wall is the second phase in which the Paceman is represented as a 3-dimensional idea emerging from a 2-D material. The front body panels, wheels and details were all created from formed sheets of paper.
