The Danish firm revealed its plans for Europa City, a hybrid of cultural, leisure, retail and residential space.
The Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) was awarded the Europa City project in an international design competition and bested other firms like Manuelle Gautrand, Valode & Pistre, and Snøhetta.
As described on BIG’s website ‘Europa City is an urban landscape hybrid of culture leisure and retail carved into the landscape of the Triangle de Gonesse.’ The theme of the project is Europe, its culture and diversity. The project combines the experience of Parisian suburbs and the countryside with urban living.
BIG’s designs of the project intends to make it the center of a new business district with a mix of cultural sites, restaurants, retail shops, and entertainment venues. The project will also have open landscapes and pedestrian-friendly streets. Public transportation will also be easily accessible.
BIG’s plans also include a ski slope and a pool within Europa City, as well as a green roof. The roof will serve as a public park, insulation, and a means to turn grey water and rainwater into a usable byproduct for the city.
