The car brand teams up with Solarwatt to use energy from the sun to power up electric cars.
German car maker BMW and solar energy company Solarwatt have teamed up to provide solar energy solutions to future owners of the BMW i electric car. The two companies are coming out with a solar carport system for BMW i3 and BMW i8 owners to charge their cars.
The Solarwatt Carport System uses glass-glass modules to create a modern style solar-based electric vehicle charging and household microgeneration system. The solar energy carport can feed directly into the BMWi wallbox as it charges.
For BMW, this partnership with Solarwatt contributes to their direction of providing a complete package for customer-friendly electric mobility. The carport system is part of the company’s 360° ELECTRIC Programme which aims to give solutions for electric mobility. BMW has already partnered with the likes of Schneider Electric, Naturstrom, and The Mobility House for this program.
For Solarwatt the team-up with BMW lets them show consumers that their solar systems offer practical solutions to energy concerns.
Customers can purchase the Solarwatt carport system along with their BMW i vehicle or they can order the products online. The BMW i3 will be launched later in the year.
