Brooklyn-based firm THEVERYMANY created this Louis Vuitton pop-up shop in Selfridges London for its collaboration with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. The design was based on Kusama’s pumpkin installations and polka dot paintings.
The red and white store with pumpkin-shaped elements won the 2013 Architizer A+ Jury Award in the pop-up category. It features oversized chandeliers and squat podiums displaying Kusama’s bags. The intersecting structure creates an immersive and hypnotic environment for visitors.
The firm developed an efficient assembly method for the pop-up, describing it as “the world’s first fully carbon-fiber self-supported shell applied to architecture.” The lightweight structure used a modular system, meaning the pre-assembled components could easily be fitted together.
