Radiolaria is an app created by design studio Nervous System that lets users create their own coffee table modelled after cellular biology.

The table was on display at the recent International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), where the company had their own booth which allowed anyone to design a piece of furniture and get an instant quote for how much it would cost. Specific customisations include whether or not a particular “cell” will be filled with plexiglass or not. Once they’ve specified how the table will look, it is carved out of baltic birch plywood using a CNC router – a computer-controlled shaping machine.
