The new space ‘Casa del Popolo’ will first feature six paintings by artist Nick Mead.
Artist Julian Schnabel is opening a community exhibition space on the ground floor of his house in New York City, named ‘Casa del Popolo.’ The art gallery’s first show will feature six new paintings by the British artist Nick Mead, selected by curator and writer May Andersen.
Schnabel wanted to open part of his house to the public so they could have an art experience away from the crowds. He writes:
This is the first installment of a program to show the work of other artists and an opportunity to collaborate with people who present unique perspectives on art that I believe in. I wanted to open part of my house to the public so they could have an art experience ‘far from the maddening crowd.’
‘Casa del Popolo’ opens on June 18th on the ground floor of the Palazzo Chupi at 360 West 11th Street.
