Created by Reebok and MC10, the CheckLight is a washable beanie that athletes can wear on the field under a helmet or on its own. Sensors in the hat measure the head’s forward and twisting movements, and a blow to the head sets off an LED message on the outside of the cap.
The head impact indicator provides impact information to determine if evaluation is needed before resuming play. It enables an immediate response on the playing field, with a simple visual cue when an impact has occured.
Red (severe) and yellow (moderate) LED lights alert coaches, trainers, parents and athletes to the severity of the impact so their wellbeing can be assessed. The CheckLight will be available from Reebok’s website later this month for $150.
