New interactive project aims to put the fun back into learning.
The data visualisation work allows you to physically step inside a cell, walk around its organelles and influence its processes. Visitors can discover information about specific parts of the cell by walking into the cell and touching the part of interest. The lifetime of the cell is approximately an hour; if there is no interference from the visitors eventually the cell will die and be born again.
The installation runs on a Kinect tracker and has a projector with no text or narration to guide you, giving the user complete freedom to interact with the cell as they please. For example visitors can step on external substances such as glucose or nicotine and see how they would react with the cell forming a personal mini lab experiment. All processes are portrayed through illustration, animation, and iconography.
