So, what’s new in the fun and exciting world of 3D printing? The world’s first 3D printed twin tip skateboard, that’s what.

The 3D printed skateboard was created by 3DPRINTUK and designed by Dutch artist Sam Abbott, who won the best 3D printable model portfolio category in a design competition hosted by 3DPRINTUK and CG Trader last month. The prizes included a 3D printer and a 3D print of the artist’s design, which in this case was a twin tip skateboard.

The skateboard had to be created in three parts because the size of the board was longer than the build tray. The pieces were then assembled together with connector pins.

Although the 3D printed skateboard is functional, it’s an art piece more than anything and isn’t a commercial product.

The project is another example of what you can do with 3D printing and how it can impact the world of design. Click through to see more images of the design.

The video below shows 3DPrintUK’s Nick Allen crafting the 3D printed skateboard.
