Fortune-Telling Printer Turns Past Tweets Into Future Predictions [Video]

#fortunecookie is a thought experiment that lets you create your own fortunes. It takes past events in the form of Tweets and creates a future prediction that can be placed inside a fortune cookie.

The device draws on Quantum Physics, in particular the experiment known as Schrödinger’s Cat. It was devised by physicist Erwin Schrödinger, and presents a scenario in which a cat might be alive or dead, depending on a previous random event.

This type of paradox explores a theory and hypothesis without having to build an actual experiment (which in some cases is impossible). #fortunecookie uses design as a way to manifest the thought experiment.

In the case of #fortunecookie, it explores an alternate vision where Twitter is providing a view of our future selves by taking existing tweets and changing the language . The project combines two culture familiarities and systems that have nothing in common except for a shared similar kind of language that can be manipulated to represent two different potential realities.
