Terracase by innovation design and engineering graduate Daniel McLaughlin is a hard shell suitcase made from recycled carpets and a mixture of bio resin derived from rapeseed oil.
The luggage line came from McLaughlin’s Royal College of Art thesis project on ‘biowool’ which explored the value of coarse wool and looked into how else to use wool-based products and extend their life before they become waste.
The suitcase was developed using CAD technologies and was tested using finite element analysis (FEA) to make sure it can withstand handling, rigorous use, drops, and normal luggage wear-and-tear.
The project was recently awarded £5000 from The James Dyson Foundation.
