‘Signs of Buffalo‘ is a virtual museum dedicated to the art of signage, displaying a collection of Mario Santoro’s work. Santoro Signs is a sign shop in New York, set up by Mario and his brother Rocco in 1953.
Today, it still manufactures, installs and repairs signs for local companies. The virtual museum features a collection of some of Mario’s work, with over one hundred photos from the 1950′s and ’60s. The site notes that:
Signs to Mario were always more than letters and numbers, they were handcrafted pieces of art that helped shape the American dream of building a business in Western New York. In his day, sign lettering was performed by the skillful hand of the sign painter.
