Olafur Eliasson’s “Connecting Cross Country With a Line” is recapturing the beauty of America while traveling on the Station to Station traveling studio.
As one of the featured artworks in the Station to Station: A Nomadic Happening public art project, the “Connecting Cross Country With A Line” depicts the motions that the train encounters to provide a visual representation of the land’s topography.
Olafur Eliasson’s kinetic drawing device is installed in one of the train cars, where it uses the train’s locomotive motions to move an ink ball across a white sheet of round paper.
Eliasson has promised 20 unique depictions documenting the entire locomotive journey. Currently, three drawings have been finished. With a few days left, we can expect there will be an exciting unraveling of the cross-country run.
After the Station to Station journey, Eliasson’s machine will return to Berlin, where Eliasson will display each composition, complimented by a poem highlighting the artistic vagabond.
If you get a chance to catch a glimpse of the traveling art studio, don’t forget to check out Eliasson’s beloved artwork.
