Jan Willem Tulp works at the intersection of design and technology and is mostly known for her data visualization work. Her latest venture is a scientific map that displays optimal food pairings. The data connects any food to other foods with shared chemicals, showing how combinations of chemical compounds lead to great flavors.
Produced for this month’s Scientific American’s food section, Tulp’s infographic displays surprising combinations such as roast beef with shallots, peas etc. but not red wine, and according to this graph chocolate goes well with blue cheese.
