Most of us charge our smartphones and devices at night and leave them next to us on the bed or on bedside tables.

Taking advantage of this common habit, Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer of Raw Edges Studio created the Smartlight, a set of charging docks that use the built-in LED flashlight of the iPhone as a reading light to turn the dock to a table lamp.

The charging docks are made of different commonly-found materials and transform into table lamps when used. The docks also come in various designs: Sling, Suction Cup, Rocking, Rubber Shade and Art Deco Army flash light.

The Smartlight concept was presented at Loose Thread, OKAYstudio’s exhibition during the 2013 London Design Festival.
