New York-based experimental artist JK Keller’s new project deconstructs and reconstructs an episode of the much-loved cartoon The Simpsons. The episode in question is ‘Mom and Pop Art’ from the tenth season; Homer becomes an outsider artist when he meets famous painter Jasper Johns.
Keller took apart each frame of the 20-minute episode and ran each one through different pieces of manipulating software such as a battery of Adobe Illustrator auto-alignment tools and various filtering systems. The resulting video piece titled ‘Realigning My Thoughts On Jasper Johns’ presents the TV cartoon as a pop art object and marks an interesting convergence between pop culture and ‘glitch art.’
Keller’s work ‘seeks to transcend & transform everyday digital elements through obsessive, iterative, and generative processes’ and that’s exactly what this project does.
