V6: The Unexpected is the latest offering from Svbscription, a quarterly package that includes various luxury items designed exclusively for men and shrouded in mystery until the day the delivery goes out.

The package features a curated set of goods that help people deal with the unexpected situations that life can throw out, things like building a house in the wilderness to escape a storm or removing a log from the middle of a road in the dark of night. In all of these situations, light is the resource that is most underrated, until the situation arises of course and you find yourself stuck without a lighter or flashlight.

This quarter’s parcel will contain one of the first publicly-available runs of Lumio, a portable light source that is shaped like a book and can be taken anywhere. Designed by Max Gunawan, the lamp is high-performance and designed to be a style-conscious item that is easily accessible without attracting the wrong kind of attention.

“We feel that our guy needs to have a unique and sophisticated way of bringing light into any space,” explains Svbscription co-founder Andrew Apostola. “When the end of the world comes, he can just casually browse through his bookcase under ‘L’ and open up the Lumio like he’s done it all before.”

New York-based designer Sinclair Smith has also created an exclusive item for V6, the identity of which will be revealed once the parcel ships.

“We were doing research into the different tools that man has used to protect himself,” Apostola tells PSFK. “We had seen some of the imaginative work that Sinclair has done and noticed that he’d explored producing some luxury tools. Sinclair is a brilliant thinker, and we worked together on a very intense product for this edition.”

Expect to find other useful pieces of gear in October’s Svbscription offering to help deal with the twists and turns that life throws at you.
