Art Wars features the white headgear customized in various ways by 19 celebrities such as Damien Hirst and the Chapman brothers.
The white Stormtrooper is one of the most iconic images in the Star Wars films and the image has found its way in various things like posters, graphic t-shirts, key chains, and more.
For the art exhibition Art Wars, the Stormtrooper helmet gets an artsy make over by 19 artists. Artists like Damien Hirst, Jake and Dinos Chapman, David Bailey, Mr Brainwash, Paul Fryer, and Joana Vasconcelos were asked to create an original piece from a Stormtrooper helmet.
The artists customized the helmets however they wanted–Hirst painted spots on his, the Chapman brothers layered theirs with white bubbles, and Vasconcelos wrapped her helmet in crocheted lace.
Art Wars was created by Art Below founder Ben Moore, in partnership with Andrew Wainsworth who created the original Stormtrooper suits.
Art Wars is on display at the Saatchi Gallery in London until the 13th. The customized Stormtrooper helmets will be auctioned off and proceeds will go to Missing Tom, which was set up to raise money for the search of Moore’s brother Thomas.
