London-based artist and designer Alex Chinneck turned an ordinary and abandoned four-level house in Cliftonville, Margate into his latest art piece titled “From The Knees Of My Nose To The Belly Of My Toes.”
Chinneck made the facade of the house look like it had been peeled off the building and had slid down the front yard into the garden. The upper part of the facade is opened up, exposing the ruined interiors.
The artist spent close to a year finding the right property and reaching out to suppliers for his project. Ten British companies donated materials and services to help him construct his art piece. The house that was selected has been abandoned for eleven years and Chinneck wanted to draw attention to derelict properties that could be refurbished to provide housing to those in need. The building will be re-used as housing next year after the art installation closes.
