Internet Explorer Hires Anime Mascot To Fight Viruses [Video]
Inori Aizawa gives the world's most popular browser an image makeover to attract new users.
Internet Explorer‘s had a rough time in the past several years. Despite its claim to be “the world’s most popular browser,” it remains an underdog in terms of reputation, having been the subject of much ridicule in the browser wars between Firefox and Chrome — summed up below.
But with its latest update, IE has been given a fresh (and unexpected!) image. Now the browser is personified by a magical anime girl named Inori Aizawa, who seems to embody the message IE has been trying to convey to the skeptics. As Inori explains on her Facebook page:
When I was younger, I used to be a clumsy, slow and awkward girl. However, just like the story of ugly duckling, people told me that I have really matured and changed over the years. I feel confident in my abilities now, and I’m eager to show you what I can do.
Why don’t you get to know me a little better?
The folks behind Internet Explorer are clearly hoping people do want to get to know Inori, who also encourages visitors to download her namesake version. They’ve created an anime introduction to win hearts and minds — watch our heroine fight robotic viruses in the name of internet freedom below:
