'Spincil' by Ortiedesign combines the functionality of a pencil with the playfulness of a spinning top.

‘Spincil’ by French studio Ortiedesign is a pencil/spinning top that offers functionality and playfulness. The dull end is sharpened to become a pencil, but that action also turns it into a top that can provide a creative outlet when users get writers block or are bored at work.

Made from natural beechwood with 2B graphite lead, the 18cm long ‘Spincil’ enables you to draw and also brings you back to childhood. The more the pencil is sharpened, the more the spinning top will whirl around.

The shape appears to be simple at first glance but it proved to be complex to manufacture, because it is done vertically all in one piece. That’s why the object is turned by hand and cannot be industrialized.
