The “Willie” bus is changing the way advertisements are being displayed.
Transit buses are not the most appealing vehicles to roam the streets, but they do play a huge part in the city’s day-to-day transportation needs. Designer Tad Orlowski thought it would be smart to incorporate new technology into an industry that is desperately in need of a makeover.
He is proposing to redesign conventional buses with side-elevation transparent LCD screens, which will act like an “organic” frame. The “Wille” bus will feature a wraparound billboard that can bring life to advertisements and entertainment. The billboards can also display useful passenger information, such as route plans, weather reports, press and TV coverage. Said frame is designed to manipulate all forms of shapes, creating “an impression of restless energy attempting to cut through the unblemished surface of the glass [screen].”
