Lightbulb Turns On Online And Off In The Physical World [Video]

An art installation that blurs the fine line between the virtual space and the real world.

Designers at the German studio //////////fur//// constructed One-way Interaction Sculpture (OIS), a light bulb installation that can only be turned ON in the virtual world and OFF in the real world. Simple in design, this project blurs the line between the physical and digital worlds, and provides a comment on the increasing connectedness of our home devices.

OIS consists of a real 60W light bulb and a real light switch, virtual counterparts of both objects are represented on the AOYS website. In reminiscence to Claude E. Shannon’s theory of mathematical communication, OIS transmits signals in a way that references the the era of “ubiquitous computing.”
