Adopting the moniker FT for “Future Toyota”, the sleek sports car concept unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show represents a new design and engineering focus. Admitting that their cars were lacking passion, Toyota designers got a dream project to create a pure, enthusiast-focused sports coupe.

Designed at Toyota’s Calty studio in California, the team worked with Polyphony Digital, makers of the Gran Turismo video game to offer the FT-1 in the new Gran Tursmo 6 edition.

The FT-1 is an obvious successor to the Supra model and draws on styling elements from the Scion FRS /Subaru BRZ models. For now Toyota hasn’t confirmed any production intentions.
