Enormous Vinyl Record Spins Atop Concert Venue
To commemorate the transformation of The Forum from a sporting to a concert venue, its roof hosts a giant Hotel California album.
The largest spinning vinyl LP that you will ever see was recently on display at the revitalized Forum – once home to the LA Lakers – and now reopened as a concert venue. To celebrate its new role, the Forum hosted a six night residency by the Eagles and a rooftop made of vinyl.
The temporary roof is 407 ft in diameter, made out of a quarter million square feet of plastic vinyl and spins at 17mph. It is a replica of The Eagles’ Hotel California album, down to the label – and while it may not be viewable by people attending the concert, it is on view for those landing in LAX, which is only three miles away.
Sid Greenfeig, the Forum’s Senior Vice President, West Coast Business Operations said in a statement:
This was the perfect way to highlight to the world that the Forum is back in business and for us to honor America’s biggest band, the Eagles, who continue to be one of the most popular and successful groups touring today, and the first performer to play our iconic venue.
