Hookup App Matches Airplane Travelers On The Same Flights

Wingman gives you a chance to meet your next romantic encounter before you even land.

Virgin Airlines made it possible to buy a drink for fellow passengers last year, but now there’s an app called Wingman that wants to connect passengers with attractive people on their flight, all before you touch down. Unlike similar apps such as Tinder, Wingman includes information about the airline and flight a user is on, which means you can connect with people headed in the same direction.

The app was created by Gabe Whaley, a copywriter at BuzzFeed, who thinks it’s “incredibly unrealistic” that people will actually have sex on a plane because of his app – even though there is always that possibility. Part of the appeal is the secretive nature of it all; meeting someone in the middle of the night on your way to faraway destination, with the added bonus of a possible romantic encounter.

While it’s still very early for the app, combined with the fact it serves a relatively small niche, it could quite easily become a great way to meet romantic partners on your way to an unfamiliar city. Even if you were to use the app with no expectation of a sexual encounter, you could quite easily make friends before you even arrive wherever it is you’re going.
