Synthetic biology, 3D replication, and other important trends get the 2D treatment.
HYPERMORGEN is an interdisciplinary lab that researches potential trends to determine what might be likely, and what is an otherwise unforeseeable outcome. One of their most recent projects resulted in a set of icons that depict potential trends such as slime mold computing, synthetic biology, and 3D replication.
Some of them are meant to be tongue-in-cheek, such as the Standford Bunnies used for the 3D replication icon. There are those which that also raise more serious questions, such as the icon for synthetic biology, which is a practice that is on the rise, and has already created cabbage from scorpion venom, mice that chirp like birds, and a terrifying goat-spider hybrid that is able to produce synthetic silk.
Regardless of whether they are funny or not, the lab wanted to identify certain associations and spark discussions about the future. There are 10 icons so far, all of which you can read about in more depth at the company’s website. HYPERMORGEN also wants to create more, and they are happy to take any suggestions you might have via email, Twitter or Facebook.
