Interactive platform gathers 40 members of the Copenhagen Phil to play individual parts of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony.
Classical music is being brought into the 21st century with the World Online Orchestra (WOO) a collaboration between Copenhagen Philharmonic, Makropol in Denmark, and Helios Design Labs in Toronto, Canada.
WOO is an interactive platform where users can listen to the 40 members of the Copenhagen Phil (as it is known) play their individual parts of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony. They can then play them together or pick five musicians and create their own ensemble, a mash up of classical music. Right now, WOO is a prototype, but the hope is that in its final stage, that people will be able to record and add themselves to the orchestra – making the World Online Orchestra truly global.
In order to reach that stage, WOO is running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter with the goal of raising $30,000 (CAD) by the 24th of February. Reads the Kickstarter campaign:
WOO wants to go beyond a process of passive exploration and experience. It needs to lead you to its next logical stage of evolution: playing along and recording through your computer and internet connection, transforming yourself from audience to a participant in the sound and vision of WOO.
