The Grammy-winning Dave Matthews Band asked artists to design new concert merchandise to be featured on the 2014 DMB summer tour. With guidelines to draw inspiration from the band, their music, and their unique community of followers, the winning design promised a position in the band’s merchandise line, two VIP tickets to a DMB concert, promotion on social media, and $1,000 prize.

Ben Whitesell went above and beyond in answering the call.

Whitesell created a foldable 16” x 20” concert poster that epitomizes the idea of an old school concert tour. Replete with instructions on where to fold, the poster enables fans to create their own 3D caravan to “follow the tour.”

Whitesell described his designs to Talenthouse:

My idea is for a poster that allows fans to build their very own caravan. I included numerous Easter eggs on the van’s exterior including names of the band’s studio albums, a bumper sticker for each of the summer tour cities, and the band makes an cameo through their instruments.

With the success seen by this contest, it’s very likely that the band will pursue a similar promotion for their next tour. But will they get anything as creative? Decide for yourself as you peruse Whitesell’s creation below.
