Surveillance cameras are typically regarded for their function and not for their design, and since they are used for security and monitoring purposes they tend to be seen as formidable and intimidating things.

Italian design firm Parson has designed a new series of surveillance cameras that are fitted with outer shells resembling different cute animals like owls, squirrels, other types of birds, and more. The different looks of the cameras change the initial reaction of most people to surveillance equipment from suspicion to surprise and delight.

Each of the camera in the Animals series, created by product designer Eleonora Trevisanutto, has a sleek minimalist design and is encased in sand-cast aluminum that come in various bright colors.

The series creates a more visually attractive alternative to surveillance cameras and makes them less intimidating, especially when used in places like schools and children’s nurseries.
