Vote Now For The Design Of Manhattan’s Hotel Of The Future

Choose the design and amenities for the next Cotel in downtown NYC.

PSFK has partnered with real-estate crowdfunding company Prodigy Network to crowdsource the designs for their most recent project 17John, an innovative hotel in the heart of New York City’s Financial District. This series of articles provides inspiration for readers wishing to be a part of the project and join the crowd in designing the first Cotel.

Though the open-call for competition submissions has passed, voting has just begun. Now is your time to weigh in on the design of Manhattan financial district’s newest hotel, 17John. 17John is a crowdsourced competition to design the physical and virtual components of the world’s first ‘Cotel’, an extended stay hotel created to service the needs of the modern business traveler. Hosted by PSFK and real-estate crowdfunding company Prodigy Network, the competition invited participants to submit their designs for three areas of a brief including collaborative/public space, private space, and digital services.

A total of $50k will be awarded across the categories, but we still need your help to decide the winners. View all submissions, create an account and cast your vote here to influence the design of 17John.

Below are just a sample of some of the entries across the three areas of the brief you will find:

1) Collaborative/Public Space –  This contest area looks at how a hotel’s public spaces can evolve their design and offerings to become collaborative environments that bring travelers together to work, play and socialize. [Inspiration]

Entry: Bifocal Natures
“At 17John the application of current technologies is bifocal in nature (digital and analog), supporting a modern and balanced lifestyle in the city. Digital media above promotes connectivity. The entry below promotes well-being while smart-walls promote flexibility.” Vote here.

2) Digital Services – This contest area looks at the transactional, social and curation tools that are seamlessly connecting guests with all of a hotel’s services and amenities, helping people network, discover and share and putting the best of the local city at their fingertips. [Inspiration]

Entry: Cotel App
“17John, the world’s first Cotel, will be a home where the crowd and the social networks will come to life. This project will change the way we experience hotels, and their complementary digital services. Our app provides services which are fully integrated into the guest lifecycle.” Vote here.

3) Private Space – This contest area looks at how guest rooms can evolve to integrate health and wellness and adaptivity into their design, creating fulfilling and customizable spaces for guests during their extended stay scenarios. [Inspiration]

Entry: All-in-one Space
“The concept is strengthened by gathering all functions in one unified, uninterrupted, overlapping, soft and flexible space. It is the place where users can feel free and inspired because of a plentiful array of activities.” Vote here.
