Whether you’re watching movies in the park, tanning on the beach, or having a romantic picnic with your mate, Summer is the time for outdoor eating. Though plenty of parks offer picnic grounds that have tables and chairs for use, there are unfortunately many others that don’t. If you have the strength and time to transport a table to your desired location this isn’t that big of a problem for you, but for city dwellers it can be a big one. When you’re car-less and in a time crunch, it’s easy for an outdoor meal to become a rushed, solitary activity, but the Napkin Table just might be the tool you need that you didn’t even know you wanted.

The Napkin Table is a small, lightweight, portable table/ bib that makes outdoor eating a convenient and social activity. Created by graduates of the Tunghai University‘s school of design, this foldable carrier features fabric that fastens around the necks of diners like a bib, then locks into place like a table. Containing cut-out cup holders and miniature silverware pockets, the Napkin Table ensures there are no drink spills nor fly-away utensils. Because the table is only functional when used by two parties, this product also challenges the wearer to have their meal with another person, making it more convenient to connect with others.

The Napkin Table allows you to easily eat a meal outside and get to know the person you’re dining with a bit better. It is the result of our current dining culture, where all too often phones are used between bites instead of conversation happening with the person across from you, and will ideally improve the relationship between two people eating together.
