RoadID app could save your life if you’re involved in a crash.
RoadID already has plenty of great products cyclists can use to keep a record of their latest routes, but the latest version of their app can also give your friends and family peace of mind. Loved ones can track your progress in real-time, get an alert if you stop moving for more than five minutes, and rest easy knowing that your lock screen has all your vital information available for first responders.
The main selling point of the new free app is the eCrumb feature, which lets other people keep track of your activity when when you head outside for a run, ride, hike, or walk. Just pass along a link via email or text to the contacts of your choosing, and they can watch your movement in real-time online. You can also let them know what type of exercise you’re doing, and how long you plan to be out there.
If your family is extremely predisposed to anxiousness, there is also has an optional “Stationary Alert” that can notify select contacts if you stop moving for more than 5 minutes. If your friends and family are of the nervous disposition, this particular feature might do more harm than good, especially if you stop to use the toilet, or grab a bite to eat near the end of your ride, which to them looks like an accident.
Should you actually find yourself in an emergency, the app lets you customize your lock screen for first responders. You can include information such as your name, city and state, three emergency contacts, and important medical information that includes allergies, medical history and blood type.
Other applications for the app include an easy way for friends to find you while you’re out on a ride. For example, maybe you want to take a slightly longer route, but still give your friends a chance to join you on the return leg.
So not only does the app have some useful safety features, even if they are a little but “Big Brother,” but it could also be a great way to meet up with other cyclists and turn your daily ride into more of a social event.
