Alarm Clock Doubles as Barista for Easy Morning Awakening
The Barisieur wakes up users with the smell of freshly brewed coffee
For coffee drinkers, there’s nothing like that first cup of their favorite hot beverage to kick off their day. That is why an alarm clock that automatically brews you coffee to wake you up could be a coffee lover’s dream come true.
Designed by London-based industrial designer Josh Renouf, the Barisieur is an alarm clock that doubles as a coffee brewer.
The alarm clock looks like one of those classic rectangular digital alarm clock with a chemistry set on top of it. The base of the Barisieur is American walnut with a digital clock display. There are knobs on the side and a switch for the coffee brewer next to the digital display. A small drawer on the front serves as storage for the sugar and ground coffee beans.
The sleek device has stainless steel ball bearings inside a bespoke hand blown glass beaker that boils water through induction heating. The boiling water is pushed out of the beaker through a slim glass tube and is poured over the ground coffee which is placed in a sustainable stainless steel coffee filter. The coffee then drips through the filter and into a glass cup. In the middle of the tray is a small glass container that holds the milk or cream.
The Barisieur basically wakes up users with the gently clinking of metal against metal and metal against glass, as well as with the smell of freshly brewed coffee. The unique device moves away from loud ringing alarms to simply nudge the user awake by engaging not just their sense of hearing but also their sense of smell and even taste. For coffee drinkers, waking up to grab a freshly brewed cup of coffee waiting at their bedside may be all the boost they need to start the day right.
The dual function alarm clock also encourages users to start a night time ritual of preparing the alarm clock for tomorrow before going to sleep – a ritual that the designer describes as a signal to the body and mind that it is time to unwind and relax.
