The new app introduces a rating system to help people find the best places to nosh for any time of day

Restaurant rating guide Zagat has released a new iOS app that ushers in several changes for the decades-old brand. Along with a new visual identity and better search functionality, the app moves away from Zagat’s 30-point rating system to a more easily understandable five-point scale for dining suggestions.

The redesigned app enables users to search for their next best meal in myriad ways—by type of food, neighborhood, rating, price or proximity. In a bid to compete with the likes of Yelp and Foursquare, Zagat’s app leverages the iPhone’s GPS to suggest the best spot for that exact time of day and location, such as suggesting the highest-recommended lunch spots nearby when it’s almost noon. With the new Zagat app, rest assured that finding your next best meal is just a few taps away.
