The metamorphosis of former Clash guitarist Mick Jones from late 70’s socio-political hell-raiser to punk-rocks learned elder statesman looks complete with the opening of his own library. Located a stones row from the infamous road the Westway that inspired so much of his music, and set in a 3000 s/ft lock-up in Acton, The Rock and Roll Public Library will feature original artwork, fanzines, recording equipment, interactive features and of course a treasure trove of music and punk paraphernalia.

Jones claims the idea is a “direct artistic challenge” to that altogether more “corporate” affair, the British Music Experience, which recently opened [...]

It’s approaching rush hour and Liverpool Street is fast becoming a crushing medley of limbs, briefcases and polished Italian shoes. Already late for a meeting you dart towards the Circle line in a vain attempt to arrive in some sort of concerted punctual state. Whisked off into London’s rat race you arrive at your destination station with perhaps enough time to conceivably make it, yet, as hundreds pile off of the train, you spy the exit at the furthest away point from your current position, blocked by a hundred steaming commuters and the hustle and bustle of the city’s underground [...]

With a population of just over 2.5 million people, Greater Manchester is one of the busiest, hustling and bustling counties in England. With much of this mass of peoples centered within the city of Manchester, the built up and industrial metropolitan has been developed from the centre outwards. However much of the city, particularly the southern strip, and the northern quarter, have long been crying out for regeneration as the decline of heavy industry has left many areas depleted over the years. Things are changing however. A regeneration project in Ancoats, just north of the city centre, will incorporate a [...]

Shoreditch is a funny old place. Bubbling with Artsy crevices, graffiti covered corners, outrageous forward thinking fashion fiends, the occasional ex Rockstar, shady salons, cheap drugs, expensive booze and a strong conviction in its own hype, Shoreditch isn’t ever without much in the fervently flitting form of the wildly eccentric. That fact is now even truer, as a converted Turkish Bathhouse, has laid its bold roots on one of the area’s well beaten, much maligned, corners.
Tactically set where the City meets Shoreditch. The Bathhouse, as it is known, offers far more than one would primarily believe, the space playing host [...]

Just when the economic situation is getting everyone down and dreary, there would appear to be a shiny, glitter-ball of light at the end of the tunnel. Quite a few people have noticed the move of the well known and loved BAPE store off Carnaby Street, which people used to queue outside for hours on the day a new line was being released. The BAPE lines have now been moved to pop-up stores in Dover Street Market, a place not many of the regular customers are all too comfortable visiting. Adili is one of the first ecological fashion websites that has grabbed the attention of the mainstream consumer. Since launching in 2006 it has acted as a portal to over 80 ethical clothing brands such as Karen Cole, Neal’s Yard Remedies, Pants to Poverty and People Tree. Recently it has launched its own line of ethical clothing called ‘Adili Own Label’ which includes accessories, towels, lingerie, nightwear as well as men and women’s fashion ranges. When UK based Woolworths, the store that stocked and sold pretty much everything you’d never need, was hit by the recession and closed most people were a little distraught. Although the chain was famous for its variety of sweets and being frequented around holiday time for any and every type of toy, there was not enough business to keep them afloat. From this disaster and disappointment however, has come some good.
First, via the initiative of previous Dorchester branch Woolworths manager, Clare Robertson: after the closure of her branch in late 2008, she decided that something similar had to go in [...]

Thermal imaging technology has revealed that Buckingham Palace is one of the least ‘Green’ and ‘environmentally friendly’ buildings in the UK. The test, taken by energy team Naviton, clearly displayed extreme heat loss through the windows, roof and cracks in the walls. Surveyors gave the Palace a score bottom score of 0 out of 10 for its environmental tact. Simple window restoration would greatly improve their partaking in saving the environment, and with window repair at such a low coast, the royalty’s bank balance should remain barely unscathed. Interestingly, several governmental buildings are also among the country’s worst [...]

Already, more than 20,000 people across the UK have been attending courses provided by an emerging, secretive organization called Common Purpose, a company that claims to provide advice and guidance for the country’s next leaders and high fliers. Whilst the company is non-profit, it has support from businesses and people like BBC business editor Robert Peston and Cressida Dick – the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. People who attend the courses are asked to explore the dark corners of their own psyches, confessing to their own strengths and weaknesses, and are also taken on workshops to mental hospitals, [...]
