Errr…

It is a nice can, but some of the green justification chat about it is misleading.

As far as I understand it, there is no “paint removal process” in recycling aluminium cans. You just melt them.

And from a production efficiency point of view, the raised logo is never going to be an option on a mass-produced can product like Coke. It would drastically affect canning line speed, stopping the cans rolling freely down the line. When you’re dealing with a canning line that’s probably operating at around 1,500 to 2,000 cans a minute, you don’t mess with line efficiency.

A classic example of nice design without technical consideration.

If I remember correctly (and, unfortunately in this case, that’s a big “if”), when I was a young kid our family had a TV with a remote control that did not require batteries. The “clicker” really lived up to its name (very loud and mechanical-feeling), and I think that’s because it was powered using piezoelectricity.

I like the idea. And if the cans are in 6-packs, 12-packs or cases the cardboard packaging can help differentiate among the different Coke products.

Simplifying the process is a great idea, but the logo needs to make it on the can somehow. The Ryan Harc image presents the iconic Coca Cola script as raised lettering. While this isn’t unfeasible, it adds another process in modifying the cans. While I appreciate the streamlined can concept for its clean design grounding, it overlooks one of the core elements of Coke’s iconography; the familiar, vibrant red.
